Moving Forward Together! Leadership and Partnership

Moving forward Together! Leadership and Partnership aims to engage a wide range of students and early career health professionals from different disciplines on issues related to delivering services to indigenous populations, including the curriculum taught in training health professionals at universities. Whether you are new to the field of indigenous health or have more experience in the field this workshop will provide an excellent avenue to further your interest and create opportunities for further involvement.

It is well known and acknowledged now that there are significant gaps in life expectancy and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.  Leadership and Partnership values are essential in working towards ‘Closing The Gap’ in health for all Australians.  As the next generation of health professionals, we are committed to closing the gap to ensure all Australians have the opportunity to grow old and live healthy lives.  Future Health Leader’s Indigenous Health Forum - Moving forward together! Leadership and Partnership is here to inspire you to contribute to decreasing the burden of disease.

Focusing on local initiatives, keynote speakers include Danielle Dries and Bruno Alioisi from ACT Health.

  • Bruno Aloisi, ACT Health (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Mental Health Services Team) will focus on local initiatives, and partnership opportunities, which are essential in ensuring we move forward in Indigenous Health.
  • Danielle Dries is an award winning medical student and physiotherapist,  who is passionate about furthering her work in health, particularly in rural nd remote areas, to close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous health disparity. She will talk about her personal journey and challenges she overcome during her undergraduate studies as well as her pathway to further study at ANU.
  • Daniel Mahony, FHL Co-Chair will be discussing the importance of partnering and leadership in order to Close The Gap and how we, as the future of health, can encourage this.

Following this, delegates will have an opportunity to partake in interactive workshops run by:

Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA) will be running a session that will discuss you as a leader, effective leadership and how you as a student and early career professional can practice leadership behaviours.

Winnunga Aboriginal Health Service – Delegates will be given the opportunity to discuss and participate in some of the local service run by Winnunga.
